You have been seen, read, or heard a news that Loped-owned Philippines' mySky Network was supposed to shut down its legacy coaxial-cable-led wired TV broadcasting under Sky Cable brand on February 26, 2024 [1]. That was possibly due to the conditions imposed from Philippines' antitrust body Philippine Competition Commission (PCC) regarding the buyout of Manny Pangilinan-owned-and-controlled PLDT to the existing fiber optic network of mySky under Sky Fiber brand. [2]

As of this development, the supposed intent of PLDT to buy the facilities of Sky Fiber at estimately ₱ 6.75 billion was now canceled. The real reason was not yet disclosed. [3]

We know about the limitations on the use of legacy coaxial cable wired TV network supporting both analog and digital TV channels: on analog (NTSC 480i and PAL/SECAM 576i) assigning on channels 2 to 99 and digital in DVB-C [and several analog] (up to 1080i in MPEG-2) assigning on channels 100 to 181. Although it can transmit in unlimited number of subscribing TV households compared to IPTV and streaming that require a fewer Internet computing power to a demanding number of home network subscribers, coaxial cable TV network does not yet support a future 4K or 8K live TV channel content.

If mySky Philippines Network would push to shut down their coaxial cable TV network, what would be a possible scenario on the following matter as the company would rather prioritize home fiber optic network after PLDT buyout and takeover?

First scenario: It's up for my Sky Network Philippines' primary sibling company, ABS-CBN, to possibly offer a substitute streaming app carrying various ABS-CBN [and several Creative Programs Incorporated (CPI)-produced] wired live TV channels beyond iWantTFC. The substitute app may be available to both Android TV box or Apple TV box, the live TV channels being encrypted without disclosing what video codec to be used either H.264 [Average Bitrate (ABR), constrained VBR, Artificial Intelligence (AI) compression, or Constant Rate Factor (CRF)], HEVC, or MPEG-5 LCEVC to produce 1080p 60 fps. Once installed, it may require an option to select a participating fiber optic network providers within Philippine territory such as Sky Fiber, PLDT Fiber, Red Fiber, Converge, Royal Fiber, Cablelink Fiber, Globe Home Fiber, and many others before starting to stream in "ala-YouTube-like" user interface.

Second scenario: Those encrypted ABS-CBN live TV channels mentioned in first scenario using their existing Sky Fiber network infrastructure may transmit to other home fiber network providers through key participating regional legacy coaxial cable TV providers that require a special streaming box to decrypt live TV channel contents. Of course, the legacy coax providers may have an option to choose either 720p or 1080p to be "multiplexed" or "sync-in" to analog NTSC content rather than optional digital 480i or 1080i. (Carrying ABS-CBN live channels in HD to home satellite TV providers such as Cignal and G-Sat is yet to be disclosed in a different story to consider.)

Third scenario: ABS-CBN may likely negotiate a Metro Manila-based legacy coaxial cable TV provider that has not yet disclosed to carry their live TV channels in true wide SD 480i (not letterboxed SD) or HD 1080i. If the shutdown would push through, selling their coaxial cable TV service to other legacy provider may likely possible.
